A WOMAN OF GOOD TASTE

I have a young, sincere, naive and very impressionable eighteen-year-old assistant.  Ray is smart, attractive and works hard.  Last week we had a long talk about mentorship.  He wanted to know what kinds of questions he should ask his mentor and what he say to his mentor.  I told Ray that he should be able to discuss any topic with his mentor.  That his mentor is there to guide, encourage and support him in his professional, as well as his personal endeavors.  So, the following day I asked Ray if he had a chance to speak with his mentor and he said yes.  His mentor is a Director of HR for IBM - a very prestigious posititon.  Anydiddles, Ray said that his mentor invited him out for a night on the town in NYC for dinner, which should prove a great experience for Ray.  On the day of his date, Ray came to school looking very dapper, dressed to the nines, sharp as a tack.  However, one thing was amiss - Ray had on a black jacket, black slacks, black shoes, white shirt, pinned-striped tie and WHITE SOCKS!!!!!  I almost fell out of my seat.  I was stunned.  I tried not to laugh straight to his face, but couldn't help myself so I giggled - just a bit.  This was scandalous, to say the least.  Being the fashionista that I am, I quickly sent him home to change his socks from white to black.  Mama always knows best.  Cheers!!

  2. LOL.... even a small town hick like I am knows your don't wear white socks with black slacks.

So you live in NYC? Next time I come for a visit, I am going to look you up. When my Hubs goes to Atlantic City, I usually take the but to NYC. Well not me alone, like I said, I am a hick. REallY!! A small town hick. Bet you couldn't tell by the way I write...LOL

I did live in Brooklyn when my first Husband was in the Coast Guard but things were rough, times were hard and we didn't get out much. Then I also had my daughter and was kind of stuck at home. POOR

Anyway, maybe one day we can meet up and say hello. My Granddaughter has an uncle who lives on ... I want to say right off or on 42nd st. Not sure if that is right. But he can see the ball drop on New Years Eve if he sticks his head out his window and leans way around. LOL...

  3. Lady Di - You said are sooooo right. Any man worth his weight in salt ought to know that. But Ray is such a naive sweetheart that there is a lot he doesn't know about life. So, it's great that he has me as a mother/teacher/mentor. Cheers!!

Terry - You are a pistol. I am so glad that I met you. There are a few online buddies that I have that I would love to meet in person and you are absolutely one of them. I live in the suburbs of NYC. To be able to look out of your window and see the BALL drop is really a nice experience.

  6. Well, I suppose if he'd been wearing jeans and trainers, but then though the white socks would have been OK, the rest of the outfit would have been wrong!
